Hey all,
hope the holidays are treating you well !

We have departed ways for a week in hopes of being filled with pork, tofurkey and dressing.

In other news, I was recently asked by the Lovely Daniel Beirne from Said the Gramophone (we're in the best of 2010 list again !!!) to contribute a piece to a new quarterly that he helps to create. This month they published the "unpublishable," in the music section of the online magazine.

I recorded my voice using my phone and sent it to Jesse via the computer world, who in tern used his sampler to make the poem sound like a slinky or something. dope.

Here is the section, which also features Holy Fuck, Grand Trine, etc.

Tis early September in Toronto, which means it's time for the oh-so-popular Toronto International Film Festival.
Rattail is playing an EYE Weekly showcase at the Drake on September 15th as part of the festivities. We are playing alongside Foxes in Fiction, The City Streets and Mathemagic!

I once volunteered for TIFF as an audio person, aka doing sound sheck for the microphones before interviews with directors.I would also hand over the microphone to audience members for questions.

Anyways, one day I was at one of the "nicer" hotels where press junkets were happening when Marky Mark came on the elevator! I was awkward and stood in the corner, but he entered the elevator yelling at his assistant over something like having been given his lunch at the wrong time. weird. but he was a babe in real life.

We played a lovely show in Calgary at broken city. Jeff, whom we met during sled let us stay at his place -- he has house shows here.

We played Bruno, saskatchewan last night. Tiny little town with this really unique space called all citizens!

This is the outside of the venue.

We left this morning -- looking quite tired these days . Almost home !

UPDATE 1 - Eye magazine did this nice little interview with Jasmyn.

UPDATE 2 - We just had a little mini-tour with Makeout Videotape and it was a lot of fun. We played Hamilton, Toronto and Hamilton and got real wacky and met so many rad people. Some video at the untold city.

UPDATE 3 - Our van got broken into Sunday morning in Montreal and all our equipment was ripped off. Boo-urns.

see you March 26th at The Garrison when we open for Magic Markers. Hopefully we find some instruments by then.

-we have a new rehearsal space, in a musical factory. so now we are playing louder cause we can. the novelty will wear off soon i'm sure.
-jasmyn got a new guitar, its a lefty strat that used to belong to jesse that we flipped to a righty.
-the "george mounsey" 7 inch is pretty much done and ready to go off to pressing anyday
-we will be releasing our full length and touring in the late summer on unfamiliar records
-our equipment is all still falling apart and we still love wine
-I'm late for work

REMIX NOTES:

RatTail are Toronto-based moody popsters, avowed acolytes in the church of BFF demon bitch Doom Tickler, and recent signees to Unfamiliar Records (home of Japandroids and my pal Makeout Videotape). They play incredible, mopey, infectious indie rock that reminds me of the late-90s output of the Northwestern United States that I used to love so much when I was growing up. There is a lethargy to their music which is both inviting/relaxing, and oddly emotionally cathartic. Jasmyn Burke has remarkable pipes, curling into folksy vibrato at unexpected moments, and holding everything she articulates at a fascinated, inquisitive distance. "Go Green" in particular feels like a focused meditation of sorts, though I'm somewhat afraid to ask what about. Instead, I tried to lay down a little reverb garden so RatTail's meditation could have some privacy - a place of solitude and contemplation - where even white noise sounds more like the dull thrum of water running in another room than anything else. All non-percussive sounds are RatTail's original guitar tracks, destroyed a bit.

Toronto loves top ten lists!

Their murky, warm and drum-heavy recordings are some of the loveliest treasures to come out of Kensington Market in 2009 (they recorded at 6 Nassau). Live, Jasmyn Burke’s vocals and ridiculously adorable demeanour have a way of sneaking up and smacking you in the chest when you least expect it.

We are working on a mini-tour of Ontario and Quebec for march as well.
